LINIAN take part in Berlin Trade Mission, led by the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon

LINIAN’s Sales and Export Director, Lynne Jhangeer and Operations Director, Jean Arbuckle recently took part in a trade mission to Berlin in a bid to expand the business and forge important commercial links. Supported by the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Development International, the First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, led the Scottish delegation. The delegation comprised 12 Scottish companies along with LINIAN including Thistly Cross Cider of East Lothian, Gold Hart Candles based in Glasgow and prestigious and well-known Scottish brand Nairn’s Oatcakes. Taking in three cities in four days, the group met with partner organisations across Germany, not only in Berlin but in Nuremberg and Munich as well.

Why Berlin?

Berlin has emerged as a vibrant, creative, cultural city building a reputation for its growing start-up ecosystem. The city has a culture infused with creativity, openness and transformation with global aspirations, and has been the fastest-growing business region in Germany since 2006. Glasgow has similar aspirations with an equally vibrant cultural economy, as well as a growing technology sector, and has the potential to be a world-class economy primed for inward investment in addition to supporting the trade and export of key goods and services.

Why is it important for LINIAN to be involved?

LINIAN’s vision is to build a business with a global network in virtually every country across the globe. As Germany often leads the way in design with their fresh approach to innovation and forward thinking coupled with the highest standards, this was an ideal opportunity for LINIAN to soak up some fresh and innovative ideas plus explore potential new partnerships. Lynne had this to say about the experience: “We were delighted to participate in this cross-sector mission with businesses who have many common synergies whilst in different markets. We have been well supported by organisations like Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Development International, Glasgow Chamber of Commerce and Edinburgh Chamber of commerce to develop links with partner businesses in the EU. The Scottish Government have developed hubs in Berlin, Brussels, London and soon Paris as springboards to establish business there. For LINIAN to be involved in this delegation at this level is a demonstration of our commitment to expand our business into forward thinking, innovative countries like Germany.” LINIAN has stockists throughout the UK, South Africa, Estonia and Ireland and are currently pursuing further international partnerships.
