You might already know that I have been raising money for different charities over the last few years. I’ve been doing this by running, walking, cycling, and also making a complete fool of myself at times.
Well, I’m very excited to share that I have been accepted to become an Ambassador for The Electrical Industries Charity‘s organisation committee right here in Glasgow. It is a real honour and a privilege.
During my fundraising and stop/start love affair with running I have been doing a lot of research into our own industry. I’ve read some of the statistics around mental health, illness, divorce, addiction, reemployment, redundancy, and suicide. For example, suicide is 2.7 x MORE LIKELY in our industry than the national average. My research led me to the Electrical Industries Charity which has been doing some great work in these areas for a long time. It made me want to raise awareness, funds, and support in any way that I can. Even if it’s just a post on Linkedin or a blog post like this because it’s important to know that we’re not alone…..there are many people in our industry who have already accessed these services and you can too! Together we can work to change the statistics.
Over the course of the next week or so I’ll be posting some insights on Linkedin about who and what the charity does. I’ll also share information on how it can support you and, how you can give back to protect these vital services.
You can find out more about how to access services or donate here: https://lnkd.in/e_6eCxuV
I’m also organising the raffle and auction prizes for the Sportspersons Dinner on Friday 16th September at Oranmore too. So if you can help a gal out with any prizes please let me know! It looks set to be a great night and a fab excuse to be entertained whilst raising funds! You can book a table here now – go on!
In the meantime follow me on Linkedin for regular updates.
